Dear Graduates,
Spring rush is often considered secondary to the larger fall rush. This spring, however;
was different. Thanks in part to our new Recruitment Chair, Matthew Stine '11, this
Spring Rush was the most successful in recent memory.
What made this Spring Rush different from past efforts, was the focus on getting to
know each rushee personally. Instead of brothers inviting huge numbers of rushees to
large, impersonal events at the house, each brother took an initiative to personally invite
each rushee to smaller events.
The events of this Spring Rush included: Casino Night, Monday Night Bowling, Bill
Mielke's Macaroni Dinner, 3-D Movie, Superbowl, Wednesday Wings, and new event called
Bid dinner. After giving each rushee his bid, they were invited to a Bid dinner up at the
house to really get to know the house they will be pledging. . Overall, attendance was
strong at all events. The rushees favorite was the Macaroni Dinner, which had 12 rushees
in attendance. In addition to these scheduled events, there were countless informal
events. Brothers invited rushees to snowboarding trips, grilling, and meal plan.
The goal for this Spring Rush was 7 pledges; a lofty goal considering recent Spring
pledge class sizes. Thanks to a new attitude, and the personal effort of each of the brothers,
we met our goal of 7 pledges for the Spring ’09 Pledge Class.
